Triple Danish Eurosonic-Push

Triple Danish Eurosonic-Push
Henrik Friis

There are three Danish entries amongst the participating bands at the Eurosonic Festival/Noorderslag Seminar in Grooning, Holland, which is being held this Friday and Saturday. Swam Lee, Saybia and Jomi Massage are among the 100 participating acts.
25 stages and venues in Grooning are fired up to present the many band, during Friday’s Eurosonic part of the festival.

Eurosonic, as the name suggests, is produced in co-operation with The European Broadcasting Union, who’s members include P3 in Denmark and BBC (with the legendary DJ John Peel, participating). A lot of the concerts are recorded and played for a broad European audience.

Swan Lee will perform at Vera, Saybia (Winner of P3 Trophy, 2001) at Mutua Fides and Jomi Massage at The Grand Theatre on the Small stage.

Swan Lee – going
to Groningen.

Other names to notice are Renegade Soundwave and SpicyGoat from England and Stereo Total from Germany.

Saturday is reserved for Dutch bands in the form of Noorderslag.

Eurosonic/Noorderslag also offers a number of music seminars and panels, and has many similarities to ROSA’s SPOT festival. Only it is twice as old, has twice the number of bands and twice the spectator capacity (~5,000). First and foremost it is a festival where music comes first and is dealt with respect, unlike the large European Branch gigs like MIDEM and POPKomm, which are far more commercial, and where the music is often just an ornament.

ROSA gives financial support to the 3 Danish names, as has been practiced in connection to Eurosonic since 1996. S.M. Mongstad proves that it works. His participation in 2001 led to jobs in Holland, Belgium and Germany.
