This coming weekend St. Gallen will echo with Scandinavian tones when the 1.nordklang.ch festival is held at a number of the town’s stages – as well as in the St. Laurenzenkirche!

For a long time it has been clear that the number of Nordic bands in St. Gallen this weekend is going to be greater than ever – even if you include the rest of Switzerland. Now, however, yet another fascinating act has been added to the list – namely Alice Rose, whose performance at the recent Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, the Netherlands, made her one of the absolute sensations of that festival.

Alice Rose may be on her own on stage with her one-woman show, but her gigs are dazzling displays of originality with her songs and subtle performance in unison with her cunning use of strings, samples, toy keyboards, toy chainsaws, etc. It seems likely that the Cologne-based Dane is going to be among the most asked-for artists at the international festivals this summer, but already now in St. Gallen she is going to make her first festival appearance in Switzerland.

With Alice Rose as part of the line up, there will be no less than 17 concerts in the weekend’s Nordklang Festival program. The festival is organised by Nordklang headed by Felix van den Berg in close collaboration with ROSA – The Danish Rock Council, which is behind the well-known Nordic SPOT Festival in Denmark (please see the attached “previous press release”)

Church concerts
As something rather unusual there is also going to be two actual church concerts in St. Laurenzenkirche on Friday 2 February at eight PM with Lampshade and Hush and on Sunday 4 February at 10.30 AM when Spælimenninir og Afenginn are to close the festival. But the Nordic dominance doesn’t end here: there is also going to be a Nordic literature event as well as Nordic films in connection with 1.nordklang.ch.
