Kunst & Kultur i Balance

Kunst & Kultur i Balance (KKIB) is the common resource for the art and cultural industries. Transgressive behaviour, abuse of power and unconscious bias are problems that require attention, perspectives, knowledge sharing – and not least common solutions and action.

KKIB works to break down structural barriers, share knowledge and resources and create awareness of how unconscious bias and privilege can be used actively and positively to create access. With education, networking events, workshops and conferences KKIB gives you the tools to speak out against prejudices and take the next important steps towards a modern cultural life. And we listen and learn from each other's experiences along the way.

Since its inception in 2020, KKIB has educated more than 600 agents of change from the Danish art and cultural life, published an Argumentation Guide and Knowledge Manual for free use, hosted networking events and workshops and participated in panel debates. All to create awareness of how to create change and to give our colleagues tangible tools for working with change.

Kunst & Kultur i Balance was initiated by the music organisation Art Music Denmark as a result of the many testimonies of transgressive behaviour from women in the music industry. The initiative quickly spread to involve 31 organizations across music, visual arts, film, theatre, museums and performing arts.

In 2022-2024, KKIB was run by a steering group consisting of Aarhus Filmværksted, Art Music Denmark, Dansk Komponistforening, JazzDanmark, ROSA, Roskilde Festival and Tempi with focus on creating methods to continue, anchor and consolidate the initiative.

Project ownership is from 2022 with Tempi. The day-to-day project management is run by ROSA and Tempi. The day-to-day administration is handled by Art Music Denmark.

In 2024, KKIB established a closer collaboration with our Norwegian sister organisation Balansekunst to create the framework for knowledge and experience sharing across the Nordic region. Two Nordic and Baltic networking conferences were held in Oslo in 2024 and in Copenhagen in 2025 as part of the collaboration. After the conferences KKIB published the catalogue Lived, Learned, Shared which combines honest and lived experience with practical tools. The catalogue also present mindsets and applicable methods shared by some of the speaker's at the conferences. You can find Lived, Learned, Shared here.

In collaboration with In Futurum, Kunst & Kultur i Balance has created a small series of videos, each addressing a specific theme and what considerations can be made to create change.
