ÆT

The Danish cultural heritage receives new life as 'ÆT – vores kulturhistoriske lydspor' presents Danish songs and hymns in the intersection between Danish and Middle Eastern music traditions.

Many will probably know songs like 'Jeg gik mig ud en sommerdag' and the hymn 'Sov Sødt Barnlille'. ÆT twists the wellknown songs and sheds new light on them – which offers new perspectives on our musical heritage. ÆT is a project that takes it starting point from the Danish cultural heritage and creates new arrangements that crosses cultures and music traditions – in the hope of creating space for dialogue between people and between musical expressions and compositions.

Music is always in process and so is ÆT. Currently, ÆT consists of Yossi Karutchi, who has developed, arranged and produced reinterpretations of Danish songs throughout the last 10 years, and a changing ensemble currently consisting of Helene Tungeland, on vocals and harp, and Orhan Özgür Turan, on baglama/saz and oud.

- By doing this you breathe new life into the music, says Yossi Karutchi and adds:

- I believe that the more you are connected to your roots, the more freedom you have to grow.

Recognition and reinterpretation

ÆT strives to create musical landscapes that are both recognisable and pointing towards other musical soundscapes. In the intersection between Danish and Middle Eastern traditions, ÆT is a living example of the importance of diversity and the strength of being in touch with your roots.

Definition of the word æt: "a person's kin, "a group of people that make up a population, a social class or similar" - from ordnet.dk

ÆT offers new perspectives for a broad audience and listeners. ÆT is reinterpretations of well-known songs such as 'Tit er jeg glad' and 'Jeg gik mig ud en sommerdag' from Højskolesangbogen as well as 'Lyksalig' og 'Sov sødt, barnlille' from Den Danske Salmebog (among others).

ROSA, Levende Musik i Skolen and Tempi collaborates with ÆT in order to present concerts at schools (efterskoler and højskoler) and the idea is that the music can be applied in the class room through text analysis or though learning how to create compositions and playing different instruments.
